- Bootcamp Partition Not Showing Up In Startup Disk
- Bootcamp Not Booting Into Windows
- Bootcamp Does Not Restart To Windows Installer
Hello,
Bootcamp Partition Not Showing Up In Startup Disk
My wife has an iMac with OS X Lion on it. We partitioned her HD to run bootcamp with Windows 7 to play some games. Bought a Seagate Backup Plus external USB HD for extra space for games on the Windows 7 end and Time Machine for her iMac. Time Machine does not work with the Paragon driver the ext HD came with so I decided to partition it into two parts; one for Mac, the other for Windows.
I looked up about the different HD formats for Mac and Windows. Used Disk Utility to partition the ext HD 50/50. Named the top partition Mac and chose the format Mac OS Extended (Journaled), named the bottom Windows and chose the format NTSF.
After running Time Machine on the Mac partition I restarted the iMac to Windows 7. I did not eject and unplug the ext HD before restarting, not sure if it played into my problem or not but thought I’d mention.
Once Windows 7 started I opened up My Computer and I did not see the ext HD listed. I ran Disk Management and saw the ext HD listed but it did not show any partitions. Just shows the entire ext HD unallocated.
What do I need to do in order for Windows to see the necessary partition?
Been reading up on the different “options” for the partitions; i.e. GUID and MBR.
- Hovsep,I originally read that link you provided before I was having the issues. I solved the problem yesterday. I changed the Windows partition on the external HD to MS-DOS, ejected the HD, rebooted into Windows 7, plugged in the HD, Windows saw HD right away, went into Disk Management and changed the Windows partition from MS-DOS to NTSF.Thanks for everyone's help.
- Thanks for your feedback:) your valuable solution will help others:)
- I am a bit surprised you are having issues because your iMac and OS X version suggests that the drive is most likely formatted using the GUID/GPT partition scheme which Windows 7 should have no issues with reading.Actually, being curious I just tested it with Lion and Windows 7 (no bootcamp):
I partitioned a drive with one OS X Extended partition, one ExFAT using the GUID partition scheme and Windows detected the ExFAT partition right away.Maybe it's a derp from bootcamp? Anyway, the options you were reading up on are most likely the solution to your problem.Since you only used Time Machine so far and Windows couldn't even access the drive I assume you have no problem with formatting the drive again losing all data currently stored on it?Go into Disk Utility, select the external drive and click on the partition tab.
Select 2 partitions etc. as you did before ~ OS X Extended for Time Machine, ExFAT or Free space for Windows. At the bottom click options and select 'Master Boot Record'. Then finally apply the settings and let the drive partition.Maybe bootcamp only likes MBR partitions ~ hope this solves your issue. - have you tried to use windows restore point to revert back just before the problem started? How to view HFS+ hard drives from Windows
http://www.macbreaker.com/2012/02/access-mac-os-x-partition-from-windows.html- Not quite what I am asking.Bought the external HD because it is compatible with Mac and Windows because of the pre-installed Paragon driver (allowing Mac to read and write on NTSF). However, there was a note saying Time Machine wouldn't be able to be used. So I reformatted the external HD. Mariadb visual basic 6.I'm wanting to know why the partitioned disk is not showing up in My Computer. In Disk Management the entire external HD is unallocated. Only option when right clicking not grayed out is to format it.

Hello, community.
I really hope you can help me. I've searched the internet thin for answers with no luck. Please.
I'm running a Macbook Pro Retina 15' 2013 with macOS Sierra + bootcamp windows 10. The macOS partition is the default boot up partition.
My Problem
When booting up it goes directly to BSOD (0x0000000e) in Windows 10. When trying to POWER + ALT it only shows Windows. Macintosh HD (macOS Sierra) is not visible.
How I got into the Problem
I installed Windows 10 (bootcamp) before upgrading to macOS Sierra. Everything worked fine until I wanted to increase the harddisk size of the Windows partition. I used the Disk Utility to decrease the size of the Mac partition, which resulted in xx GB of unused space.

I then booted up Windows only to find that I was not able to allocate that unused space to Windows (using Partition Wizard).
I thought it was due to the fact, that the unused space wasn't formatted. I then formatted it (FAT) and this is where everything went sideways. My Mac went directly into Win10's BSOD when I restarted it.
What I have done to fix it
I tried to use CMD + R when booting, only to have limited options:
- Press Apple icon and choose Disk to boot from (don't remember the name): It shows me the two partitions: Mac and Windows. It asks for a password to decrypt the Mac option, when I choose it. After entering the password it vanishes and only the Windows option is left.
- Trying to reinstall OSx: Since macOS Sierra is a later version than the Recovery Mode's El Capitan, it won't progress.
To be able to write this post, I've plugged in my Windows 10 install USB, formatted the Windows partition and reinstalled Windows 10. This has worked. When pressing POWER + ALT it now shows two Windows options. The new (working) one and the old (BSOD/unusable) one.
What should I do?
How do I boot into macOS? And how do I remove the second (old) windows option when POWER + ALT?
Thank you SO very much for taking the time to read my post. I really do appreciate it! :-)
Sincerely,
Oliver C.
Is this a good question?

OS X :: Disk Utility - How To Add Empty Space To Main HD Partition
Jun 4, 2010I recently tried installing Ubuntu on my MBP. After never really using it, I deleted it and removed all the partitions. My problem is that there is still some 'empty space' (about 5 GB worth) that I cannot re-add to the main HD's partition. The space is not a partition of it's own, I can resize the partition box down to it in Disk Utility, but I get an error.
The error message is..

OS X :: Deleted Boot Camp Partition In Disk Utility - No External HD
Jul 18, 2010I deleted my Boot Camp partition in Disk Utility (as usual, Windows wasn't working and wouldn't fix). I resized my Macintosh HD partition to cover the whole drive and repartitioned. Now Disk Utility says that the partition's capacity is 160 GB and that I've used 40 GB and that 70 GB is available. My Boot Camp partition was 50 GB. I've read that to fix it I have to boot from my install DVD, go to Disk Utility, set the number of partitions to one, and delete the entire drive so that there's zero data left. Then I'd reinstall OS X and restore from a Time Machine backup. As of now, I have no external hard drive.

OS X Mavericks :: Disk Utility Crashed Whilst Creating Partition And Now Missing Hard Drive Space
Jun 3, 2014Disk Utility Crashed whilst creating a Partition, and I now have ~100GB missing, which was the amount I had allocated to the new partition.
The new partition didn't get created, and I now have 100GB missing from the Hard drive. I have a 1TB hard drive, and when I go to Disk Utility, it says: Capacity : 999.35 GB (999,345,127,424 Bytes)Available : 586.1 GB (586,103,844,864 Bytes)Used : 310.52 GB (310,524,317,696 Bytes)
Which adds up to about ~900GB.
I tried Repairing Disk in Disk Utility, booting into Recovery Mode and Repairing Disk there, but neither made a difference.

Applications :: No Disk Space After Failed Disk Utility Erase Free Space?
Dec 15, 2010I'm having a pretty serious problem. I attempted to erase the free space on my HD, as I do from time to time, except this time it appeared to hang/freeze at the end, when it gets to the part where it creates a temporary file. I waited for several minutes and it didn't move. I tried clicking the skip button, but that did nothing either, so I force quit Disk Utility.
The problem is, it left the disk at 'Zero KB' of free space, effectively making my computer inoperable. I was in the process of studying for a huge exam tomorrow, and am currently flipping out.
If it matters, I'm on a Macbook Pro 2.33 GHz Core 2 Duo, running 10.4.
I really don't want to have to reinstall the OS and import the old files, but my real fear is that I will have to do a fresh install of the OS.

Windows On Mac :: Use Disk Utility To Create OSX Partition / Working After Manual Partition
Jan 12, 2010First some background info. I recently purchased a 1TB hard drive for my 13' MBP, and I am about to do a clean install of OSX 10.6 and Win7 64bit on separate partitions.
And I want to setup the partitions before I install using Disk Utility. The reason for this is because I'm under the assumption that when creating a NTFS partition its better for the disk to be blank so it can put the MFT(Master file table) and MFT Mirror wherever it wants instead of some random spot on the disk (that way disk writes will be faster). The MFT thing was true when converting a FAT32 disk to NTFS. Nativity formatted NTFS disks were always faster then ones converted from FAT32, because the MFT was spread out instead of at the start of the disk.
I'm worried that installing OSX and then using the bootcamp utility will cause the MFT on my NTFS partition to end up in a un-optimal place and disk Reads/Writes will be slower.
Ok, so here's my questions.
1.) Should I be using a GUID Partition Table or Master Boot Record(Remember OSX 10.6 and Win7)?
2.) Should I use Disk Utility to Create a the OSX partition and then leave the second partition as Free Space? / Or should I use a third party utility and make the OSX partition and the NTFS partition at the same time?
3.) If I do create the partitions Manualy, will bootcamp still work correctly?
4.) Should I Use Journaled or Case-Sensitive Journaled on my OSX partition?
I know all of the questions were stupid, but there isn't any info on the web about it.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Disk Utility Can't Repair Disk (1 Partition) On External Hard Drive
Apr 24, 2012I have a 2TB Western Digital My Book Studio FW800 external that has 5 partitions, connected to my 2011 iMac. I had help doing the partitions and don't really remember the reasoning, but one is just for my SuperDuper! backup, one is Miscellaneous, one for movie clips off my camcorder, one for misc scanned photo's and one for my genealogy research. I back up using Time Machine to a Time Capsule and also to this WD hard drive with SuperDuper!
Recently I'm getting a pop up message that 'Mac OS X can't repair the disk 'Genealogy'. And it needs to be reformatted. It's become a read only disk. When I look in Disk Utility it shows all the partitions as 'Mac OS Extended (Journaled)' EXCEPT for the one in question. I also noticed that there are a lot of files with 'date created' being the same date in 1969! These files may be letters I've written or photo's I added to that partition within the last few years.
I think I have to completely reformat the entire external hard drive to repair this, but I want to make sure. Because it's going to be a major hassle backing it all up to another external (having to get one first) and then figuring out how to make the files that have turned 'read only' in that one partition, back to their original state! Does this sound right, that I have to reformat the entire external hard drive? And how do I get the read-only files back to their original state.

Windows On Mac :: Partition Error - Back Up Disk And Use Disk Utility To Format
Oct 9, 2010I had windows vista installed but suddenly the audio decided to become faulty, after spending a day trying to fix it i realized I have a windows 7 install disc so i might as well just replace vista with windows 7. I didnt take care of vista or ever register it so it became quite a task to upgrade so i just deleted the partition and went to create a new one and just do a full install of windows 7.
I made the partition but the wrong format, so i removed it through boot camp assistant and created another, except now it keeps giving me the 'back up the disk and use disk utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using boot camp assistant again' Now, I'd love to do this, except I have no idea what I'm doing and WHY this error has occured. After becoming frustrated I switched from my imac to my macbook pro and received the same error when trying to create a partition. So any help on exactly what I need to do would be a HUGE help. I only use windows for music production (I know, seems backwards, but I use Sony Acid and FL Studio so I'm stuck with Windows)

Mac Pro :: Scratch Disk Partition And Size With Disk Utility
Sep 8, 2010My new 2010 hexacore Mac will have 24G memory, an OWC Extreme Pro 120G SSD (positioned in the lower optical bay) and four 2TB WD RE4 drives. I'll use my old Synology 209 NAS (two 1TB WD Green Raid 1 drives) for TM backups over 1000Mbps Ethernet. Yes, I'll need to upgrade to a larger NAS very soon. This will be my first Mac Pro (have MBPs and iMac) and will be used for web design and development (mostly Adobe CS5 products).
The SSD will be used for boot and application files. I plan to use Disk Utility to create a 1+0 Raid array for data files. For a Scratch disk, should I:
1) create a partition on the 1+0 Raid Array for Scratch
2) partition a chunk of the SSD for Scratch
3) attach a spare external 2.5' WD drive via Firewire 800 for Scratch
Based on my reading, it seems that option 1 makes the most sense but I'm not entirely sure if you can partition a 1+0 array with Disk Utility. I'm pretty sure option 3 is quite silly but wanted to toss out the idea. Lastly, are there any generic recommendations on scratch volume sizing?

OS X :: Disk Utility Will Not Allow To Resize Partition
Apr 2, 2009Originally I had 2 partitions on the internal 500gb hd in my MBP, one was 455gb the other was 10gb that I used to mess around on. I do not remember what format the small partition was in last, it may have been FAT32. I wanted to delete the small partition and consolidate into one partition. My OSX partition is formatted macos extended. I went to Disk Utility and deleted the small partition by selecting it and clicking '-.' There was grey space where the partition used to be. No problems here. Most of the options in Disk Utility are greyed-out.
I cannot select a different partition scheme. When I try to resize the partition either by dragging it to cover the grey space or by manually typing in a larger size, there is no way to apply the changes. The 'Apply' button is continually greyed-out (See Image). If I try to resize the partition and then close the window, Disk Utility alerts me that I have an operation in progress and that unsaved changes will be lost. Disk Utility is not letting me resize my main OSX Partition, it appears that I do not have appropriate permissions to make this change - I am the only user/admin of this machine.

I had 70Gb free and I stopped it when I noticed i had 30 Gb free left. So I just lost 40 Gb of hard drive space. What happened? is there anyway of recovering it or did I just make a huge mistake.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Disk Utility Shows Different Available Space Than Finder?
Apr 10, 2012I just reinstalled Lion from a fresh harddrive. I did not use the migration asistance to pull files over to the new drive, I selested files and dragged them over, So not to fill the drive with things I dont need..
So I 'Get info' on the main harddrive it shows Which is crazy! Then I use Disk Invintory and it shows:
and Disk Untility shows:
Why the difference? Simple question and How do I free up space? I'm also trying to back up using time capsule*
Info:
MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2010), Mac OS X (10.7.3)

OS X Mavericks :: Disk Utility - Restore Failure / Not Enough Space
Sep 3, 2014I just used Disk Utility to make a backup of a MBA (65GB) onto a 500GB external drive (Restore from internal HDD to external HDD). I then reformatted the internal hard disk and proceeded to restore my backup (external HDD to internal HDD). I soon received an error message stating 'Restore Failure - not enough space'. I guess that means Disk Utility backups are a one-way operation, since you can't restore from a larger drive to a smaller one? Is there something I am overlooking? I ended up using Carbon Copy Cloner to do the job, but I'm wondering how (if?) restoring from a larger backup drive is possible using Disk Utility?
OS X :: Disk Utility Stuck On Creating Partition Map?
Jun 16, 2008Bootcamp Does Not Restart To Windows Installer
i am trying to format a brand new 120 GB hard drive via an external USB 2.0 enclosure. About 25 minutes ago, I selected the 'erase' option and slected the Mac OS Extended (Journal) Volume format. For the last 25 minutes, disk utility has been saying that it's creating a partition map. It's doing nothing.
I have reason to believe my enclosure may be faulty. (I had a similar problem on an old hard disk and thought that the problem was with the disk; now I know.) I need to know: How do I disconnect/eject the hard disk without damaging it? The eject option in Disk Utility is grayed out. If I attempt to quit Disk Utility I get a warning telling me I could leave my disk inoperable.

OS X :: Disk Utility - Erasing Partition Error
Nov 21, 2008I installed Ubuntu on my iMac, and it made 2 new partitions: DISK0S3 and Linux Swap. Here's what my disk utlity looks like: When I try to remove Linux Swap, it says that the partition (map is too small. When I try to remove DISK0S3, nothing happens and it keeps running forever before I press +Q to quit.
